Kate Tompkins, Director of Summer and After School Programs
Kate has over 20 years of experience in education and summer programs. Prior to her start at Moses Brown in 2018, she worked with the summer program at Brown University, and spent 15 years at an overnight summer camp in Upstate NY.

Kate has a BA in Educational Studies from Colgate University, an M.Ed. in College Counseling and Student Affairs from the University of Delaware, and an Ed.D in Higher Education Administration from the University of Rochester.
Kate oversees Extended Day, MB After 3, Vacation Camps, and Summer Camps.
Luz Avila, Extended Day Teacher
Luz Avila has had over a decade of experience in education.
She holds a teaching degree from Casa Central School in Guatemala. Luz speaks Spanish and grew up in Guatemala where she worked for the first time as a teacher in a private school. She worked there for one year, and then worked in public school for 3 years before moving to the United States. Once in the United States she was a teachers aide at the William D’Abate School in an ESL program for adults. I then worked at a childcare center called My Kids and Company; at an after school program at the Paul Cuffee School and at Mothers Morning Out childcare.
She is a cat lover and enjoys taking care of her plants all year round!
Capri Catanzaro, Extended Day Teacher
As an honored member of Phi Beta Kappa, America’s most prestigious honors society, Capri is celebrated for her academic excellence, social conscience, and good moral character. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island, earning a Bachelors of Arts & Sciences degree in Gender & Women’s Studies with minor coursework in Statistical Science.
In her first year as an Extended Day Teacher with Moses Brown, Capri earned a Parents Association Special Project Grant to bring InvenTABLE to the school and taught MathSense with Capri in the MB After 3 program. She enjoys automotive technology, having attended New England Institute of Technology in 2015 and rebuilt/restored a vintage truck in her spare time.
Yoon Kim, Extended Day Teacher
Yoon has eight years of experience in education. Before joining Moses Brown in 2023, Yoon was an elementary visual arts teacher for six years in public schools in Raleigh, NC and Westerville, OH. During her time as an educator, she has worn many hats, including being an MB substitute teacher, an art club facilitator and counselor for camps such as Camp Invention, a STEM based camp, and MB’s RISE summer camp. This past year, she served as the interim Lower School Assistant.
Yoon holds a BA in Arts Education from The Ohio State University, with a PreK-12 licensure and possesses student teaching experience in elementary and middle school settings. During her undergraduate studies, she worked at OSU’s A. Sophie Rogers Research Laboratory School for Early Learning, focused on the Reggio Emilia approach. Prior to attending OSU, Yoon studied at West Chester University of PA, concentrating on children’s literacy and the arts. Yoon is currently completing her Master’s program in Arts Education with a leadership track at Boston University, where she continues to advocate for students as an ambassador for the College of Fine Arts.
Yoon’s personal experiences, having grown up in a wide range of regions across the country, strongly influence her passion to provide equitable care and education to students from diverse backgrounds. In her spare time, Yoon enjoys traveling, glass blowing, gardening, yoga, and fashion design.
