Chess

Moses Brown School is proud to offer our students the magic and joy of chess instruction from Chess Master Connections (CMC). CMC programs are dynamic, thoughtful and FUN! Learn life skills of winning and losing well, creating a plan and following it, and focusing on you and your opponent’s actions and the importance of creativity all masterfully imparted throughout their instruction.

 

Squash

Grades K-4

We are thrilled to be able to offer this fun sport for lower school students! Children are encouraged to wear athletic clothing, and non-marking footwear is a must. No other equipment is needed as rackets & eyewear will be provided. Coached by the team at PVD Squash, overseen by Arthur Gaskin, a multiple winner on the PSA-World Tour and 8-time Irish National Champion.

 

Storytelling & Play - Acting Class with Studio Playground

Grade K-1

$140

Let’s laugh, sing, and make a beautiful ruckus! Join Studio Playground for an acting class that empowers students to develop confidence and use their voice in an ensemble. Classes begin with a group warm up and physical acting game as students learn the fundamental concepts of voice, body, and imagination. Students explore characters, storytelling, voice, movement, and improvisation.

Learning objectives include:

  • Explore the health benefits of laughter through movement and improvisation

  • Understand the actor’s tools of voice, body, and imagination

  • Engage an audience in narrative storytelling

  • Skills for communication and collaboration

 

Tuesday

 

Cartooning

Grades 3-4

$150 (includes materials)

Design your own original cartoon characters and storyboards! We’ll talk about drawing texture - hair, fur, scales, feathers, horns, Using clay, paint and fabric, you can create a puppet of your main character and bring your storyboard to life!

Is your character a villain or a superhero? You choose!

Math Olympiad

Grades 4

No cost

October: 13, 20, 27, November: 3, 10*, 17, December: 1, 8, 15*, January: 12, 19, 26*, February: 2, 9, 16*, March: 2, 23, 30*
April: 1 day TBD for ending party. The dates with the “*” designate that the students will be taking the actual official Olympiad for that month. For more information, please refer to the email from Susan on September 9. 


 

Gizmos & Gadgets

Grades K-2

$150 (includes materials)

 

Professor Gizmo returns to Moses Brown bringing a variety of projects for you to build and bring home to enjoy! Using simple tools, common household items, recycled wood, tubes, cones and toys, we’ll make kaleidoscopes, motorized gizmos and fun engineering challenges! We’ll also have some “free-build” days where you’ll create from your own imagination.

Gardening with Joe Mirsky!

Do you like eating fresh picked veggies, dissecting flowers and investigating the habits of pollinators?  Do you like getting a little dirty, spending time outside, and learning more about how plants grow?   Join Gardening!

 

Math Club

Math Club is a fun time to explore topics that are beyond what students usually learn about in their classroom. We will delve into topics like fractals and Fibonacci Numbers, play strategy games such as Set and Acuity, explore probability, discover the math in Origami, and challenge ourselves to improve our creative and flexible thinking skills. As happens every year, the weekly topics will grow and change with the interest and needs of the participants.

Unlocking Innovation: Coding & STEAM Club with Erin Broderick

Join us for an exciting adventure where creativity meets technology! Our Coding & STEAM class invites young innovators to dive into the world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. Through games, projects and collaborative challenges, students will explore the principles of coding, robotics and more. Whether they’re beginners or budding tech whizzes, kids will gain valuable skills while fostering teamwork and creativity. Get ready to unleash your imagination!
